What’s in a Dream? Your Guide to Decoding Your Visions

01/02/2020

We all know what Martin Luther King Junior’s dream was about, but what is the story behind your dreams? Dreams can seem like your run of the mill story or fable, but other times the most random people or events take place. You wake up wondering what exactly your subconscious was trying to tell you.

The Deal With Dreaming

Dreams are entertaining at times and other times frightening. Whatever is portrayed, however, is a necessary function of your brain.

Dreaming occurs when the body is in a deep sleep, and deep sleep is essential to your health and well-being. Longer and deeper sleep is linked to reduced risk for heart disease, obesity, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes. Essentially, dreaming is overnight therapy. Although you reap the benefits, you may not always be clear on the meaning.

Dreaming is also a safe space in which to play through troubling emotions and experiences. You may not be able to face them in the real world, so dreams help you solve problems without fear. The trouble with the meaning of dreams is that they are as unique as you. You can visit any number of dream readers, and you will get different interpretations of the same dream every time.

When it comes to decoding dreams, you are better off relying on your own intuition. After all, who knows you better than you?

Symbolic or Literal?

The first thing to remember is that not all dreams are literal. Just as the Death tarot card does not literally mean death, death in a dream is not literal either. Death can symbolize a change or the end of a cycle or phase.

The best part about an ending is that a new beginning will be coming shortly after. Death in a dream can be a sign of something bright ahead, so it should not always be decoded as doom and gloom.

Dreams involving water are known to be linked to emotions. The majority of dream interpreters seem to agree on this fact. As to which emotions, you need to take a closer look at your current situations and recent experiences to determine how you are feeling. This can give you a baseline as to how water in your dreams relates to your specific emotions. A waterfall for you can be fearful emotions, whereas a stream can be happiness.

Identifying recurring themes and patterns in your dreams is a great way to discover problems that have been ignored in your life. If it keeps popping up, then chances are it is still a problem. Dreams, in this way, help you identify a situation in your life that needs attention. Identifying these and solving them can bring reduced stress in your life and other beneficial consequences.

Stay away from the dream dictionaries. Some symbols will have universal meaning, but your dreams are unique to you. This means that symbols will mean one thing for you and have a different meaning for your friend.

Decoding dreams effectively is best done trusting your own inner guide. There is no need to spend money on a printed and bound guide to get you through your dreams.

Dreaming was once thought to be a way to connect with the divine in ancient Greek and Egypt civilizations. Once only interpreted by those with a spiritual connection to the divine, dreams were important, and the meanings were taken very seriously.

Dreams are still important, but whether you take them literally or not is up to you. You can buy countless books helping you analyze every symbol or enjoy sharing the imagery with others. Keep the dream conversation going on Facebook @weliveconscious or on Instagram @weliveconscious.

Waking Up To Wellness

Dreams are essentially internal movies to entertain you and recap your day. There doesn’t have to be a definitive meaning to them, but if you want to analyze them, you need the right tools to do so.

The one certainty about dreaming is that your brain needs to do it. Some dreams are literal, and others are merely symbolic. You are the one who knows you best, so only you can decide what the real meaning is.
